How does the EU Parliament vote

Every month, the EU Parliament holds a plenary session in Strasbourg where all votes take place. Important votes are conducted by roll call, and only for these votes is the choice of individual parliamentarians published. EU parliamentarians can vote in favor, against, or abstain from voting. They can also be absent. Votes can be held on amendments, proposals from the Commission, and proposals from the EU Parliament. On the homepage, all selected votes have a voting date and an abbreviation indicating the type of vote. These abbreviations are used here. :

abbreviation Voting type Description
Mfr Motion for resolution A proposal in the European Parliament by a member, committee, or political group on EU matters, often to express a stance or urge the European Commission to act.
DCd Draft Council Decision A draft decision prepared by the Council of the EU, submitted to the European Parliament for advice or approval on various policy areas.
